Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Tubing

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), more commonly known by its trade name, Teflon®, is a hydrophobic, nonreactive material with a low coefficient of friction. It is among the most chemically inert, nontoxic, and nonflammable substances used in laboratory settings, making it ideal for a wide range of reagents. PTFE tubing also has non-stick properties, preventing material from adhering to the tube. This is particularly important in diagnostics and research testing, as the tubing requires less wash solution between runs.

PTFE tubing has some of the highest working temperatures and chemical resistance available. It can tolerate acids, coolants, and other harsh chemicals over a wide range of temperatures. Its smooth interior ensures unrestricted flow and easy cleaning. Autoclaving, steam cleaning, or chemical cleaning are all highly compatible sterilization methods. The tubing is semi-flexible, allowing gradual bends (minimum bend radius: 5/8” for 1/16” OD tubing, 1” for 1/8” OD tubing).

We recommend using PTFE tubing whenever temperature, pressure, or chemical harshness is high. PTFE tubing is sold in 25′ increments and is also available in assemblies with ArcMed’s Click-N-Seal fittings (made of PEEK) and flat-bottom ferrules (PTFE/Stainless Steel) for maximum chemical compatibility and performance.

PTFE tubing assemblies can be cleaned and reused multiple times across different applications. They can be replaced if tubing gets bent or pinched accidentally.

Use larger ID tubing for instruments with higher ID internal channels. For example, Daisy Sol Val XL is intended for 1/16” ID PTFE tubing, whereas Daisy Sol Val may be used with smaller ID tubing.
