Solenoid valves are the core components of the Daisy Sol Val. This instrument uses 8 LFN series, isolation-style, 2-way normally closed solenoid valves from Lee Company (Connecticut, USA). Each valve contains a diaphragm seal made of chemically inert EPDM, isolating and protecting the valve’s internal components from the fluid.
All valves are 100% factory-tested to ensure reliable switching performance and are widely used in medical, biotech, and scientific instrumentation.
The LFN series valves feature zero dead volume with only 9 μL of internal volume, which is easily flushable without retention. They operate from vacuum up to 30 psig. Maximum flow before the valve cannot fully close is 165 mL/min, so the Daisy Sol Val is best suited for low-to-moderate flow applications (typically under 100 mL/min).
Valve switching can be as fast as 20 ms; however, higher pressures can slow response. The Daisy Sol Val is designed for moderate-speed switching (a few Hz). For high-speed applications such as nanoliter dispensing, separate modules will be offered in the near future.
The valve heads and the flow manifold are precision-manufactured from PEEK, offering broad chemical compatibility with aqueous and organic solutions. See the Chemical Compatibility section for more information on wetted materials (PEEK and EPDM).
The manifold houses 8 channels along a common port line. Opening a valve connects the side port to the common port, allowing fluid flow. Users can direct multiple input samples through the common port into a downstream vessel or flow channel via a pump, or reverse the flow for outputs. Multiple Daisy Sol Val modules can be chained to create custom flow networks.
Plug all unused ports with our special port plugs.
For applications requiring different topologies — such as 2-way or 3-way isolated ports without a common channel — custom manifold configurations are available. Contact us with your custom request before ordering.
